Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed says that a paper has been prepared on how to restart tourism in the Maldives and submitted to President’s Office. During the press conference held today, he said that after a decision is taken on that, tourism will resume after discussing with industry experts. First, the Ministry will look at which airport to open and which airlines should be given permission.
Further, the Minister also stated that there are tourists who want to visit the country even now. From an Arabic country alone, 2000 people have requested. Booking requests come from china as well. They were willing to be in quarantine and stay for as long as 6 months..He said that although the Ministry wants to open the border now, it is hoped to open border by July October season.
It has been revealed that over 100 resorts in the Maldives have paid rent even in the pandemic. Minister Waheed stated that over 600 resort employees have requested travel to their home island. Those people can go directly to their island without coming to Male and without additional quarantine.
