A Big Salute to Centara Ras Fushi Resort & Spa for 5 Years of Rehabilitating Corals

The journey to a life-changing event started and the amazing decision to turn Centara Ras Fushi Resort into a coral-reef life-saver was made 5 years ago. The coral restoration programme initiated by Best Dives team and Centara Ras Fushi still lives on in the resort and is a favourite among many guests.

The programme is part of Centara Grand Island’s energetic policy towards environmental conservation and was particularly designed to rehabilitate the parts of the reef that have stopped growing. This procedure will promote the growth of new coral and embellish the underwater ocean with a variety of new coral species.

The procedure involves harvesting coral fragments from the resort reef and also from nearby reefs and then planting them on discs made from non-toxic cement. The discs are then attached to coral beds that have already been placed in a selected zone inside the lagoon. Once the corals start growing and appear healthy, they are transferred to the main reef and allowed to grow.
