An inhabited island 60 km west of Capital Male` City with a population of around 1200 people, the island of Rasdhoo in North Ari Atoll is one of the most popular diving destinations in the Maldives and also one of the best places for an island vacation. Get ready for a warm welcome from the locals and lots of sunny activities.
Since Rasdhoo is the capital of the Alif Alif Atoll administrative division, the island has an ATM and a bank, a few restaurants, souvenir magazines as well as a 24-hour medical center and a police station. So you can enjoy the island life but with the perks of civilization. The beautiful island also features a house reef about 1km and is famous for its habitats of black and white tip reef sharks.
You can find several dive centers on the sialnd. But for the best experience, go diving at uninhabited island of Madivaru, a spectacular dive site due to both the topography of the reef and the marine life inhabiting it. You’re likely to encounter a school of grey reef sharks, large dogtooth tunas, schools of eagle rays and mobulas, large schools of trevally and jacks, white tip reef sharks, sting rays, a school of barracuda, mantas in season, napoleons and turtles.
Your experience does not stop at diving and snorkeling. You can walk by water between nearby uninhabited islands and sandbanks. Imagine being on a piece of land without any plants or palms in the middle of the ocean! You can go on a dolphin safari or night fishing or even have a romantic dinner on the beach.
And when it comes to accommodation, you are open to a variety of options. If you’re looking for a place a minute’s walk from the beach, check out Rasdhoo Coralville. The Shallow Lagoon Rasdhoo features a shared lounge, garden, and a restaurant and is 100 m from Rashdoo Bikini Beach. Other popular guesthouses include Brick Wood, offering beach front accommodation and boasting family rooms and a children's playground.
