Airlines Increase Frequency to Maldives as Demand Rises

Thursday 4th of March 2021

A total of 30 airlines are currently flying into the Maldives on a regular basis, 23 of which are scheduled flights and 7 are chartered airlines. Bringing in mass numbers of tourists considering the given situation, airlines are seeing more demand for the destination now than ever.

The Maldives with its WTTC Safe Travels Stamp, nation-wide vaccination drive and naturally social distanced geography, appeals to even the most peculiar travelers. Coming in from different corners of the world, these travelers are staying in for longer and taking in the most of what the destination has to offer on their holiday.

Fly Dubai connecting the major source market of Middle East via the Dubai International Airport with the Maldives has increased its frequency from 6 to 11 flights weekly to Male. This decision was made based on an average of over 80% occupancy onboard flights to this destination. A number of key marketing activities are being carried out by stakeholders of the Maldivian tourism industry targeting the Middle Eastern market and Dubai being an international connectivity hub, is ideal for travelers to access and fly off to the Maldives.

Adding on to the list is Turkish Airlines which was flying 1 flight weekly in February and now doubling it to 2 weekly flights to Velana International Airport. Turkey has remained a strategic connectivity lane for travelers from neighboring countries to access the Maldives.

Efforts are being put in collectively by many industry stakeholders to achieve the high target of 1.5 million tourist arrivals by the end of 2021. An average of 3400 arrivals on a daily basis since the beginning of the year looks promising towards the goals, and Maldives has welcomed over 195k tourists as of March 3, 2021.
