This time around, Alila Kothaifaru Maldives has something special in store for its guests- the chance to delve deeper into the Maldivian culture and tap into the ‘Miracle Tree’ of the Maldives. Named as the ‘Art of Coconut’ the latest Alila Experience takes guests on an educational journey, pulling stops to admire cultural, artistic and culinary aspects of the highly esteemed national tree of the Maldives.
Embark on this authentic journey with Alila’s local Leisure Concierge host who will enlighten guests with Maldivian stories about how all parts of the coconut palm is utilized, giving the palm its well-deserved name of Miracle tree. From using the coconut husk to make foods to the strong fibres that are handy as coir ropes, the Maldivians waste nothing when it comes to the coconut palm.
Trench deeper into the traditions surrounding the tree by watching how locals climb the tree to gain access to the fruit. Guests will also have the unique opportunity to quench the refreshing drink of coconut water, freshly obtained from the tree. Of course, the fun is not limited to adults only as the ‘Art of Coconut’ is incomplete without the artistic effect. Locals fold the palm leaves of the coconut in different styles to create different origami pieces, a perfect chance to include your kids in the experience.
Coconut forms an integral part of the Maldivian cuisine and is deemed as one of the base ingredients of all dishes. In the next step of the experience, guests will be offered the rare opportunity to redefine their kitchen skills by trying their hand at some traditional Maldivian dishes. The dishes can later be enjoyed by watching the waves, exploring new horizons with new flavours.
This session is followed by a mixology class at Mirus Bar where few simple tips shared by the bartenders can take your cocktail-making skills up a notch. Here guests will be introduced to ‘Coconut Aged Negroni’- a cocktail infused with aged hollowed out coconut, giving a strong taste of coconut without overpowering the original taste of Negroni.
The journey is concluded by immersing guests in a relaxing and revitalizing spa recluse curated with coconut. A coconut flower bath is followed up by a massage and mini facial, incorporating the health and beauty benefits of the palm onto your skin.
While speaking about the new experience, General Manager of Alila Kothaifaru Maldives, Alexendre Glauser said that besides providing an unforgettable experience for guests centered around the roots of Maldivian culture, the ‘Art of Coconut’ also aligns with Alila’s zero-waste commitment where every part of the coconut palm is used.”
The ‘Art of Coconut’ is one of the resort’s Cultural Learning experiences, focused on a love for exploring local history, culture and artisanship. The destination is at the heart of The Alila Experience and guests are invited to enhance their holiday by indulging in this unique offering.
