Being awarded the ‘Best of the Best’ award by 2021 Traveler’s Choice Awards was a fresh start to a new year for W Maldives. The unforgiving island of unlimited luxuries managed to remain on top of their hospitality game amid a global pandemic, the team ensuring that every guest experience was an epic one. For W Maldives, innovation was key to adapting to the new normal while making it as familiar as possible on their colorful island.

Once again, boundaries are being pushed at the resort, this time by the force of sheer dedication and the power of shovels in the hands of a masterful culinary team. Yes, knives are not their only tools for a demonstration of their skills.

This mighty initiative is a purposeful step taken towards making a positive and sustainable impact in providing world-class culinary delights to the guests at W Maldives. With simple changes to how ingredients are sourced for the mouth-watering dishes served in the restaurants, creative dining climbs up a bar of unmatched service on the island.

Ethically and responsibly sourcing local ingredients is made a priority under the #iGreenedWMaldives initiative. The Culinary Team is going to locally source their seafood and vegetables from local communities in the Maldives in efforts of supporting and valuing the tireless work of local farmers. From lobster, tuna, octopus, reef fish and other freshly-caught seafood to coconut and vegetables, these melt-to-pot creations are sourced responsibly and locally from the local vendors and islands in the Maldives.

This will greatly reduce the environmental impact of sourcing ingredients from afar.

The team of Chefs took to a tiny corner of the island and dug up a dedicated space to cultivate a humble garden with the same huge purpose. Simple herbs and leaves such as curry leaf, lemongrass, and pandan, and the spice-king Maldivian chili and many more ingredients are among the few plantations that will be ready in no time to be freshly harvested and served as part of the epicurean dining experiences of W Maldives.

Stay tuned for the exciting farm-to-table inventions cooking up at the kitchens. W CHEFS’ GARDEN will be on rock and roll!
