It’s soon going to be 6 months since Australia is being shattered by the worst wildfires the world has seen in decades.
With entire towns engulfed in flames, over thousand homes destroyed and over 20 people killed, you can’t ever imagine what the country is going through. But Australia won’t be the only place to suffer.
The bushfire is costing millions to the tourism industry and agriculture. Images of fire on front pages have scared away international visitors and the drought has hit the country’s most productive agricultural areas. A luxury resort has been completely destroyed in Kangaroo Island by an enormous blaze.
Maldives are highly dependent on Australia for various meat products and aircrafts, totaling up to US$42.97 million imports during 2018. The country is also ambitious to become the world’s largest coal exporter and economic downturn would dangerously increase the global price of coal. This means higher gas prices and electricity bills- like it’s not bad enough already.
Regardless of the fight against climate change, Australia keeps burning. The country has received support from around the world. Recently, musician P!nk has pledged to donate $500,000 to local fires services fighting Australia’s devastating wildfires.
