Azerbaijan Airlines Launches Direct Flights to Maldives

Azerbaijan Airlines has officially launched direct flights from Baku to Velaana International Airport (VIA) in the Maldives. The inaugural flight touched down at 09:45 am on November 9, 2024, marking the start of a new connection between the two countries.

A welcome ceremony was held at VIA, attended by key figures from the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), including CEO Ibrahim Sharif Mohamed and other senior officials.

The new route, which will operate twice a week using an Airbus B787E, is expected to boost tourism between Azerbaijan and the Maldives. According to MACL's Chief Commercial Officer, Mohammed Mihaad, the service will also benefit tourists traveling to Maldives from Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan Airlines’ Chief Commercial Officer, Jamil Manizadeh, highlighted that the new flights will be a major convenience for Azerbaijani travelers, especially during the winter season.
