Batik Air Malaysia has unveiled plans to launch flights to the sunny isles of the Maldives starting from 23rd June 2023. The carrier will operate flights between Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and the Maldives with a transit stop at Colombo, Sri Lanka.
The airline has previously flown to Sri Lanka between 2015 and 2020, however, operations were halted in recent years. With the reinstatement of flights to Colombo, Batik Air Malaysia has also announced that it will be flying to points beyond the destination, thus arriving in the world’s leading destination: The Maldives. The carrier will use its Boeing 737 MAX 8 for the scheduled flights.
The Kuala Lumpur-Male route is served by three other renowned airlines. While AirAsia makes direct flights between destinations Sri Lankan Airlines and Singapore Airlines serve the route via connecting flights as well. With Batik Air Malaysia also launching flights along this route, it is expected to further increase connectivity between Maldives and Malaysia and boost arrival numbers from the market.
The commencement of flights by Batik Air Malaysia comes at a timely moment when the Malaysian market to the Maldives has shown significant improvement when compared to the same period last year. By the end of February 2023, Maldives welcomed 1732 visitors from the country, which is roughly a 405% increase in growth compared to the same window in 2022.
