In a world where environmental issues are increasingly pressing, Canareef Resort Maldives exemplifies a commitment to sustainability and ecological responsibility. To highlight this dedication, Canareef is hosting a week-long series of activities focused on environmental awareness. From June 1st to June 8th, guests and staff will have the opportunity to participate in events that celebrate and contribute to the preservation of our planet.
This initiative is in collaboration with Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, and Saazu Saeed, a prominent environmental advocate and marine conservationist. Together, they have curated a series of engaging and educational events designed to make a positive impact.
World Reef Day – June 1: Coral Transplanting
The week kicks off on June 1st with a Coral Transplanting event at Bar-Kuda Beach. This activity aims to support the restoration and preservation of coral reefs, which are critical to marine ecosystems but increasingly threatened by climate change and human activity. Participants will have the chance to engage hands-on in efforts to protect these vital underwater habitats.
World Environment Day – June 5: A 100 for the Environment! Tree Planting
On June 5th, in honor of World Environment Day, Canareef will host a tree-planting event. Guests and staff are invited to help plant 100 fruit and vegetable trees around the resort. This initiative not only supports reforestation but also provides habitats for wildlife and contributes to the resort’s sustainability efforts by promoting local produce.
World Ocean Day – June 7: Awareness Programme and Nurdle Hunt
World Ocean Day on June 7th features an enlightening awareness programme and a Nurdle Hunt. Renowned marine life expert Shaziya ‘Shaazu’ Saeed will lead the event, educating guests, staff, and local school children about marine conservation. The programme will take place at Meera Conference Hall and Meera Beach, culminating in a Nurdle Hunt to highlight the critical issue of plastic pollution in our oceans. Saazu’s extensive experience and passion for marine life will inspire all participants to take actionable steps towards ocean preservation.
Global Wellness Day – June 8: Global Wellness Day 2K Run & Walk
To wrap up the week, Canareef will celebrate Global Wellness Day on June 8th with a 2-kilometre run/walk from Meera Bar to Bar-Kuda Beach. This event underscores the resort’s holistic approach to wellness, emphasizing the connection between personal health and the health of our planet.
