Celebrating 15 Years of Ooredoo Maldives

Ooredoo is a leading international telecommunications company delivering mobile, fixed, broadband internet and corporate managed services tailored to the needs of consumers and businesses across markets in the Middle East, North Africa and South-East Asia.

15 years ago, Ooredoo entered the Maldives’ market during a time when it was dominated by local Dhiraagu. After its establishment in 2005, it introduced hybrid voice Plan and offered data service on EDGE.

A year later, the company launched Call Me Back Service and ReethiTunes Service as well as Mobile Credit Transfer Service and Dhivehi SMS.

In 2007, Ooredoo offered special IDD with lowest IDD rates and established first international submarine cable. It presented MVPN Corporate plan and initiated SMS based info services.

2 years later in 2009, Ooredoo introduced 3G Technology to Maldives. As the company increased its list of achievements every year, 2014 was a remarkable year in their journey.

This was the year it started offering Emergency Data plan and started Jumbo Data plan. Ooredoo presented WiFi anywhere devices and launched 4G LTE service outside Male, initiated 4G LTE on prepaid and launched call to pay service. They introduced the first self-care app in the Maldives "My Ooredoo" and "Text a Coffee".
