Marine Life in the Maldives
In the Maldives, you will find more treasure hidden below the waves than you can ever imagine. Conducted by the Marine Biologist, Hannah Harries in Soneva Fushi, the course will give you an insight into how the coral reefs play a major role in the survival of the islands in the archipelago us Maldivians call home. Unfortunately, this amazing world is under massive threat and if we don’t do something about it now, generations to come might not have the chance to experience it like we do.
Take a 4-day learning course and plunge into the waters to discover, explore and learn about what coral reefs are, how thy impact our lives, what threats they face and brainstorm about what we can all do to help.
The night sky is a marvel. Filled with mystery and objects beyond sight, the sky has stories of a million sparkling galaxies to tell anyone who is willing to listen. Are you interested in unveiling the secrets of the night sky with resident Astronomer Maavin Munthasir?
Observe, learn and explore the night sky through the strongest telescope in the Maldives and go beyond the bounds of the atmosphere around the Earth. You will come across a lot of famous constellations, see celestial objects and learn about where they are in the cosmos. If you want to shoot for the stars, this course is meant for you.
Mosquitoes and Mosquito-borne Diseases
When Soneva Jani rolled out their program of becoming the first mosquito-free island in the Maldives, they declared war against one of the most dangerous animals in the world. And if there is someone who knows this well, it must be Managing Director of Science & Conservation at Soneva, Bart Knols.
Alongside Integrated Pest Control Manager at Soneva, Akib Jahir and Bart, learn about how a pest so tiny can be so prominently harmful to human populations and the power they harvest in themselves to make a full-grown human sick with just one injection. Don’t be too scared as you learn because Soneva Jani might just have cracked the code into wiping them off without using even a single drop of insecticide and are willing to teach you about it with this course.
Adventure of the Corbin
Aah, the best for the last! We are people of the sea and since we learnt how to navigate the ocean, there has been no wave strong enough to sink our spirits. That being said, numerous ships have wrecked under its power, one being the Corbin, a 17th century French galleon that was shipwrecked off the coast of Goidhoo Island.
Over the course of 3 days, teleport yourself back to the times when being cast away on an island meant setting up a bush toilet and fishing for your own lunch. This is the tropical version of camping, but complimented with snorkels at some of Maldives’ most breathtaking sites. And the best part is, as you are guided by Bart and Akib on this course too, you can produce your own GoPro film of your adventure.
