Coronavirus Outbreak- How Safe is Maldives?

The coronavirus is affecting 103 countries and territories around the world and the most recent country to enter the list is Maldives, with two proven cases.

China has a total of 80,696 cases out of which there has been 3,097 deaths. This is followed by South Korea with 7,134 cases and 50 deaths. Italy is 3rd with 5,883 cases and 233 deaths. In fact, it was an Italy tourist, who is suspected to have brought the virus to Maldives.

On 7th of March, two employees from Kuredu Island Resort in Lhaviyani Atoll were tested positive. There are more than 1,400 people on the island, split equally between guests and staff, according to the tourism ministry.

“Right now, we have identified people who were in contact with the patients and they are in self-isolation along with secondary contacts. At this time we can say that these individuals will be monitored for fourteen days,” states Minister Ali Waheed.
