The Maldives has reported a total 541 cases, out of which 471 are active 6 are hospitalized. There have been 17 recoveries and 1 death. According to Ministry of Health updates on 01 May 2020 - 23:54, there have been 471 cluster cases, 18 imported cases and 2 local transmission.
The latest COVID19 case was reported on 1st May, 11:50pm. Health Protection Agency confirmed an additional 10 cases of COVID-19 infection in Maldives: 5 Maldivians, 3 Bangladeshis and 2 Indians. Most number of cases reported have been Bangladeshi nationals, with 261 cases; Maldivians, with 157 cases and Indians, with 51 cases.
Ministry of Health announced recently that the state of public health emergency, initially having a deadline on 30th of April, has been extended for additional 30 days. On 2nd May, Director General of Public Health made an announcement to address the rapid spread in the community in Male` among foreign workers.
According to the statement, expats living in Male’ region, who don’t have a specific place of stay, and those who are living in places under monitoring by Maldives Police Service will be quarantined at a location specified by National Emergency Operation Center as a containment measure. Further, those expats who do not belong to any of the mentioned categories will still be quarantine if there is a chance having the disease or having contact with someone tested positive.
