As of 30 Apr, 4:30pm, Health Protection Agency has confirmed an additional 95 cases: 61 Bangladeshis, 32 Indians and 2 Nepalese. These samples were taken from individuals in isolation at a vulnerable house placed under police surveillance. This totals the number of confirmed cases in the country to 396, out of which 107 were confirmed today.
Further, Ministry of Health announces the extension of state of public health emergency in the Maldives until the end of May. As the first case was confirmed in the country on 7th March and as World health Organization declares the disease as a pandemic, the emergency was first declared on 12th March until 30 days, and then extended until the month of April.
However, as there is danger of spread in the country, in order to reduce the risk of the spread and since Director General of Public Health believes that specific actions need to be taken to ensure the safety of the general public, state of public health emergency has been extended until 30th May.
On 29th April, the total lockdown period exercised at Greater Male’ Region was extended by another 14 days. The decision was made by Director General of Public Health Maimoona Aboobakuru and will become effective on from today – the initial lockdown deadline. With this extension, the new lockdown deadline according to Health Protection Agency will be 14th May 2020. On this day, the country also confirmed its first COVID19 related death.
