Descend the few steps from your Villa to arrive at the edge of the Baros House Reef, recognized as a World-Class reef in the Maldives. The reef is teeming with marine life in the tropics, vibrant coral species and remarkable resident creatures that otherwise might be elusive to the human eye. Perfect for rookies and experienced divers, the Baros Reef combines all aspects of a well acclaimed reef to begin your diving arc in the Maldives.
Divers cruising over the shallow waters can delight in sightings of reef sharks scrounging for food and pay a visit to the sunken boat located 20m below the surface. Over time, the sunken speedboat has become a budding feeding station for Jacks and intriguing Bat Fishes who often frequent the site, offering guests the chance to explore these curious interactions.
Dive a little deeper and transverse into a different area of the reef. The depths of the reef are home to Nurse Sharks and White Tip Reef Sharks reposing on the sand and beneath flamboyant coral blocks. Here schools of glass fish encircle the coral blocks during summer, hiding them from view. Be filled with boiling questions about what they are hiding as you break the crowds with your hands and finally uncover the coral blocks!
Of course, marine life also loves to camouflage and you can exactly witness this in the underwater. Hiding among shrimps is a relaxed Moray Eel, while a closer inspection will let you discover a rare Scorpion fish and the emblematic “Nemo” of the reef- clownfish can be seen playing hide-and-seek among red bubble Anemones.
Reefs are filled with suspended food particles which attracts large schools of fish to the site. Be in the centre of dances and bubbly swimmers as schools and schools of Rainbow Runners and Fusiliers by-pass you in the sea. Marvel at the coordination and rhythm of different species of fish as they immerse you in a colourful display of hues. The clarity given by the infinite visibility will add great value to your experience, where connecting with the ocean will never be more natural.
Taking a look at the coral reef will increase your appreciation towards it more too. Have a look into Baros’s coral restoration programs like the coral nurseries in the lagoon. Lend a hand in giving damaged corals a second chance and making your contribution count to the betterment of the reef. The newly launched program “Deep Inside the Baros House Reef’ hopes to highlight the wonders of the reef to guests with the option to even discover it by moonlight by using fluorescent lights and bioluminescence to light up the dark. So delve deeper and unearth the hidden secrets of the depths in thrilling adventures in the reef.
