Joali is the first and only destination brimming with experiential pieces in the Maldives. With its interactive and artistic pieces that you may have never encountered before, they aim to instill curiosity in the viewer and allow them to experience each piece of art by delving into the world of the artist.
Each artwork has been placed carefully to certain locations considering the style of the piece, and the effect it would place if kept in that location. Joali Maldives has started welcoming tourists from August 1st 2020, with an exclusive island buyout offer. And why this island? Take a look of some of the best attractions of Joali, which are sure to bring a sparkle in your eye.
Misha Khan, an amazingly skilled crafter of delusional objects explores interesting forms and covers them with compositional and enticing surfaces. Using any material that he could get his hands on; Kahn designs his objects by hand with unorthodox materials such as pool noodles and fishing wire and often produces the final work through digital means, creating an interplay between the handmade and the technological. He follows by the motto that best work always have little surprises that reveal themselves over time.
Ardmore Ceramics, inspirational designers, born in the pastoral mid-lands’ valley, who drew the native, colourful and fantastic designs that embrace the African fauna and flora were drawn to Joali’s vision of an exotic getaway and overwhelmed to create an exclusive, one-off design for this luxurious lodge in the Maldives. This design is the romance of fragrant Frangipangi and the humid mangrove associated with the flight and elegance of the sea.
Zemer Peled, examines the beauty and brutality of the natural world. The sculptural language is formed by her surrounding environment and landscapes and engages with themes of memories, identity and place. Maldives vibes is inspired by the rich, underwater world of the Maldives, with its intricate, delicate and colourful coral forms and the multitudinous organisms that call it home. Maldives Vibes immerses the viewer in to the underwater life, giving them the true Maldivian experience.
Vernacular architect, Porky Hefer, explores through traditional techniques, crafts and materials to create functional objects that have modern relevance. Kara is basically the grey heron which is the national bird of Maldives. Kara originally migrated from Africa but chose to stay in the Maldives as it fell in love with the weather and cuisine of Maldives. Mimicking and referencing this natural world and collaborating with craftsmen to lift your heart and inspire you is exactly what Joali wants.
