The flag carrier and the largest airline of Russia, Aeroflot has once again made their way to Maldives. The only direct flight from Russia to Maldives, after a brief halt of flights due to the on-going Ukraine/Russia War, Aeroflot has commenced its operations once again to Maldives.
According to Russian news, the first flight after recommencing had landed in Velana International Airport on Saturday, May 12th, with at least 80% of the flight booked. Russia remained the top source market for tourists arriving in the Maldives, accounting for 15% of all arrivals before ceasing operations on March 8, 2022, due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Tourist arrivals from the Russian market fell by 70% after the airline ceased operations, relegating the country to third place in terms of tourist arrivals to the Maldives. However, with this recommencement in place, the tourism in Maldives has hope for the Russian Market to sore back to their hotspot of being the number one market to Maldives.
