NASA and the National Park Service, or NPS, work together to celebrate America’s heritage and the excitement of exploration—on Earth and in space! In celebration of Earth Day’s 50th anniversary, NASA and NPS created three additional Junior Ranger Spaceflight Explorer activities focused on space technology and its connection to your life on Earth
Each activity is rated by difficulty: one star for Ages 5+, two stars for Ages 8+ and up and three stars are the most challenging ones. These activities range from matching activities to drawing and reading various interesting information such as ‘living off the land and the moon’. The History of Earth Day dates back to 1969, when founder Gaylord Nelson came up with the idea for a national day to focus on the environment after Nelson, then a U.S. Senator from Wisconsin, witnessed the ravages of a massive oil spill in Santa Barbara, California. And this year, Earth Day goes digital.
Over the 24 hours of Earth Day (12:01 am ET - 11:59 pm ET on April 22), Earth Day Network will flood the digital landscape with global conversations, calls to action, performances, video teach-ins and more. ‘On April 22, join us for 24 hours of action on earthday.org as we issue a new call to action every hour for 24 hours. Through 24 hours of action, Earth Day 2020 will drive actions big and small, give diverse voices a platform and demand bold action for people and the planet.’
