In this year’s Food and Hospitality Asia Maldives (FHAM) International Culinary Challenge and Exhibition, both Embudu Village and Summer Island Maldives took home multiple awards in the culinary department.
The FHAM International Culinary Challenge is a highly distinguished competition and is even endorsed by the World Association of Chefs Societies. Deemed as the region’s premier international culinary competition, the challenge draws in many talented chefs from various establishments across the country.
Chefs at Embudu Village took the competition by storm and won three bronze prizes along with two merit prizes as well. Damindu Lakmal Withana won the bronze in the Seafood Hot cooking category while both him and B.P Tharindu Shehan Prabashwara won the bronze in the team event for Hot Cooking/Dessert.
The Merit prizes were presented to K.A.WAkila Madusanka for Beef Hot Cooking and R.A.Kasun Thilkarathna for Petits Fours or Pralines Category.
The chefs at Summer Island took all three titles gold, silver and bronze accompanied by five merit awards.
Thobeas Arulnathan conquered the gold in the Beef Hot Cooking while G.W.Dinesh Madusanka took the silver in the same category. Mohan Kannaiyan was awarded the bronze for the Beef Hot Cooking and received a merit for his Lamb Hot Cooking too.
As for the other merit awards, culinary experts, Sanjeewa Thushara Peiris Halielle Gedara and Sujit Adikary both were awarded merits for the Creative Bread Display and Seafood Hot Cooking. Chefs MD Kamrul Hasan and Mohamed Faneez really brought out the Maldivian tastes at the competition with their Maldivian Finger food platter and Modern Maldivian meal and was acknowledged with merits for both.
On the occasion of receiving these prestigious culinary accolades, General Manager at Kaimoo Resorts and Hotels at Embudu Village remarked “these awards are recognition of the quality of the chefs and the food they offer at our resorts. Good food is such an important part of any holiday, and I am glad for our chefs for showing what they can do”.
