Emirates announced at the Dubai Airshow 2021 that they are undergoing a major upgrade done to their 105 of its current wide-body aircraft with its Premium Economy product, as well as other cabin improvements.
The 18-month upgrade project, which is set to start at the end of 2022, will be carried out entirely at Emirates' cutting-edge Engineering Centre in Dubai. It will see 52 Emirates A380s and 53 Boeing 777s equipped with a new cabin class, the airline's well-received Premium Economy. The airline is also considering introducing a totally new Business Class offering on its Boeing 777 aircraft, complete with 1-2-1 seating configurations.
The President of Emirates, Tim Clark expressed his gratitude towards the implementation of the project as the purpose of all enhancements to the aircrafts is to boost customer experience on air and will continue to do so even in the future. He further shed light on the future up coming project of the Business Class Product. More details will be revealed in the future.
Emirates will have a total of 111 Boeing 777 and Airbus A380 aircraft with Premium Economy seats by the completion of the retrofit program, including the six A380s that would have been delivered to the airline with four cabin classes by December 2021.
On the Emirates Boeing 777, five rows of Economy class seats will be removed from behind Business Class to make way for 24 Premium Economy seats in a 2-4-2 arrangement. On the Emirates A380, 56 Premium Economy seats will be fitted in a 2-4-2 layout at the front of the main deck.
