The award-winning airline announced that it will be commemorating this year’s World Vegan Day in style with new vegan choices already served aboard the Emirates flights. Exclusive gourmet vegan dishes have been introduced in the First & Business Classes while Economy Class has also welcomed a fresh twist with a selection of plant-based produce.
In line with the growing global demand for vegan options, Emirates is investing millions into vegan choices, delivering customers sumptuous but healthy meals during their travels. Currently, Emirates offers over 180 plant-based recipes onboard catering to its large vegan-based passengers.
The newly served vegan menus in First and Business Class have spent a year in development at the Emirates Flight Catering. In there, the menus underwent several presentations and tasting from a diverse range of cuisine specialists such as Chinese, Indian and Arabic specialty chefs. Through this, the airline was able to create a menu catering for a wide variety of flavours and textures. To ensure an inclusive and fair procedure, the tasting panel also constituted of both vegan and non-vegan chefs.
In the economy class, vegan menus are refreshed every month providing frequent travelers a taste from a myriad of delicacies. Receiving tremendous support from passengers globally, some of the favourites featured in the Economy Class include creamy spinach and avocado mousseline with marinated tofu, blanched snow peas, barley risotto with mushrooms and many more! The desserts are exemplary too with compelling delectables like dark chocolate custard cake, zesty lemon tart laced with coconut cream and etc.
Emirates is also switching to healthier ingredients during the preparation process ensuring health-conscious passengers and those seeking a lighter meal are also accounted for in their meals. Alternative products used onboard include artisan vegan cheese, chickpea flour instead of white flour, vegetable based cream instead of full fat dairy cream, coconut butter instead of dairy butter and a whole lot of other substituents. Moreover, the dishes also incorporate superfoods into them such as the antioxidant rich black & white quinoa seeds which aids maintain cholesterol and blood sugar levels, lowering risk of heart disease.
The menus are also carefully curated to spotlight vegetables without feeling the absence of meat via clever use of textures and infusions to conjure the umami effect. Through all this, the award-winning team at Emirates were able to put together new vegan dishes displaying a vibrancy of taste and satiety in a colourful and refreshing manner.
