During the 14 days lockdown, arrangements have been made to transport essential goods from Capital Male’ City to islands and resorts. However, it is prohibited to enter and leave Male’ during lockdown period. Hence, only crew is allowed to depart with the goods.
‘All islands & resorts can come to Malé North Harbour for Water/ essential goods. However, no passengers should be carried in these vessels. Only crew can travel. Male’ City is on lockdown,’ reads a tweet by Maldives Police on 18th April, 3 days after the lockdown and the first local case in Male’.
Any type of social gatherings which has a risk of transmission is prohibited in the country. So far, there are total 12 cases of local transmissions. Health protection Agency is actively carrying out contact tracing during this period.
