Etihad Airways Adopts Mangrove Tree For Every Guest Booking On Economy Space!

Sunday 28th of August 2022

Following the launch of Etihad Mangrove Forest in February 2022, the airline aims to plant 182,000 mangrove trees in the first quarter of 2023 in Abu Dhabi as part of its planting program to establish carbon absorbing forests in every continent that Etihad Airways flies to.

Under this green initiative, Etihad is now offering Economy Space guests the chance to fly responsibly by adopting a mangrove tree for every guest booking. This allows economy class passengers to offset their carbon footprint by becoming carbon neutral over time. For each economy purchase on any of the Etihad Airways flights, one mangrove will be planted in locations in Abu Dhabi.

Guests opting for this offer, will receive confirmation of their gifted mangrove in the Etihad Forest within 10 days of their flight. Via an email link, guests can even track, virtually visit and look at pictures and other details of their tree as well. Furthermore, Etihad also gives the option of registering the tree, allowing guests to revisit the tree later and “chat” with it through the Chabot enabled tree available on the platform app. Apart from this, passengers can even track other trees with satellite maps and access data and also take a look at the featured CO2 consumption metrics!

Mangroves are more efficient at removing Carbon dioxide from the atmosphere with up to 4 times greater than other tropical forest trees. A single mangrove tree can absorb up to 250kg of Carbon dioxide in its lifetime, equivalent to the amount produced in an 8-hour flight.

Through the Etihad Mangrove forest it will help combat effects of climate change such as coral bleaching and coastline degradation. Moreover, the forest also supports biodiversity and wildlife by providing a safe haven for birds, fishes and other wildlife to thrive.

Guests in other cabins can also take part in the Etihad Forest initiative using Etihad Guest Miles in the Reward Shop. To find out more about the Etihad Forest please visit:
