Fari Islands, Maldives Stands Out For Making Strides In Responsible Travel And Sustainable Living

Travel + Leisure’s Global Vision Awards is all about honoring those making strides for responsible travel and sustainable living. The results of Travel + Leisure’s Global Vision Awards 2021 are out now, and guess who is a recipient? Fari Islands, Maldives and the destination’s resort collection featuring remarkable resorts by Capella Hotel Group, The Ritz-Carlton Hotel company and Patina Hotels & Resorts that continue to define hallmarks of excellence and exceptional service – in line with the real-estate developer, Pontiac Land.

As the first integrated luxury resort archipelago built on meaning-worthy experiences, The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, is a work of the Kerry Hill Architects that is inspired by the nature – focusing on nurturing the environment. Every aspect of the resort holistically embraces a sustainable lifestyle. In order to reduce the impact on the reefs from heavy machinery, the resort was constructed using pre-fabricated design methods. Solar energy is used to light up the island. Even guests are a part of this journey, from thoughtfully selected organized Bambford Amenities to the educational Jean-Michel Cousteu’s Ambasassor of the Environment program.

The award-winning Singapore-based architecture firm URBNarc and its founding partner, Guranf Khema designed Fari Village – one that was built with a people-first approach with dedication to creating the next generation of the top hoteliers in the Maldives. Here, employees can expect thoughtful town planning, a full range of recreational facilities and amenities that is supported by continuous development opportunities and an active social calendar. When designing the space, Khema and his team were had to take into consideration how staffs behave, what their needs and wants are. This is where the idea that the team should break away from the norms and create a place where the staffs where they can feel like they belong to, invite their families and most importantly, take away the feeling on being in an isolated island just serving guests.

“We are honored to receive this prestigious award for the Fari Islands, Maldives. The Global Vision Award will serve not only as an inspiration but to further define the mission of Pontiac Land Group and the Fari Islands team’s vision on the importance of sustainability and environmental practices in the hospitality and tourism sector,” said Mr. Evan Kwee, Vice Chairman, Capella Hotel Group & Head of Design and Hospitality at Pontiac Land Group.

“The Ladies and Gentleman of The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands are so pleased to be a part of this meaningful recognition,” said Mark Hehir, General Manager of The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands. “We look forward to advancing our reputation as an eco-friendly resort working to set the standard for sustainable enterprise and to continue to bring this incredibly important aspect through to the guest experience.”

This year’s Global Vision Awards honored 30 individuals, companies, and organizations. Nominations were put forward by an esteemed panel of experts across the travel, hospitality, and retail industries, as well as the non-profit sector which were then narrowed to the list of finalists by editors from Travel + Leisure.
