As the Maldives is celebrating its golden jubilee in the tourism sector with 50 years of service, there are over a hundred events planned on an international and national level. Some of these events are partnerships such as the one Visit Maldives had with BBC Global News.
Another such event to look forward to is an exclusive interactive discussion session on the 50-year journey of Maldives tourism, for travel and tourism students of Maldives. The session being held on 17 February 2022 at Maldives National University Auditorium, will be a hybrid session where speakers will talk about their experiences and students will be allowed to interact with the speakers.
The speakers are planned to be Mr. MU Manik, Mr. Hussain Afeef, Mr. Ahmed Naseem, and Mr. George Corbin who brought the first tourist group to the Maldives in 1972. They will be talking about their experiences and allowing students from all schools, colleges, and universities to question them about them. Registrations will be open during the coming week.
For the Tourism Golden Year celebrations, atolls are also preparing for celebratory activities. An invitation was sent from the Ministry of Tourism to all Atoll and City Councils requesting to submit proposals for Golden Year activities in the atoll/city. These activities will be funded through grants which are allocated from the Golden Year budget. Currently, 6 atolls have submitted their proposals to the Ministry of Tourism
