In March 2020, Germany will open a permanent Schengen Visa application center in Maldives. This morning, Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid announced this in a press conference with Ambassador of Germany to Sri Lanka and Maldives, Joern Rohde.
Discussions are being carried out to make it possible to travel to European Union countries without visas. Minister Shahid states that Maldivians can currently travel to 84 countries without visa, including England. For Maldivians going to the ITB fair in Berlin, Germany, a temporary clinic for Schengen visa application will be opened from February 3rd to 5th in 2020. The ease in visa applications is expected to result in great progress in the tourism industry of Maldives.
