Tourism has been the main industry of the Maldives since its inception in 1972. Next year, the nation will celebrate Golden Jubilee of the industry that has proven to be the lifeline of the country even in unprecedented global pandemic times.
In a virtual ceremony held today, Ministry of Tourism has officially launched the Logo to be used as official branding in all promotional activities related to the occasion. The honors were done by one of the longest serving tourism and hospitality professionals in the industry, Chairman of MATI, Mr. Mohamed Umar Manik. In his speech to the participants, Mohamed Umar Manik reflected back on the evolution of the industry as a whole and highlighted the magnitude of how services and facilities have heightened over the years.
Moreover, he included an appreciation to the relations maintained between stakeholders of the industry and the government over the years in developing an inclusive industry. Also, he called upon relevant authorities in accelerating efforts to ensure that Maldivians are entitled to the profits that the industry is generating.
Key figures of the Maldivian tourism industry took part in this virtual event. These include the presence of the pioneers of Maldivian Tourism, Mr. Hussain Afeef who is currently serving as the Vice Chairman of MATI, and Mr. Ahmed Naseem, Minister of Health. Speeches were also given by President of GAM, Mr. Abdulla Nasheed and managing Director of MMPRC, Mr. Thoyyib Mohamed. They emphasized the importance of stakeholders collaborating on a mutual level in upkeeping the current efforts to Maldives on a global scale.
The first Minister of Tourism of Maldives, Mr. Ahmed Mujthaba also took part in the conversations held in the event. In his speech, he highlighted the importance of Maldives remaining as a safe travel destination for times to come in order to maintain the prosperity of this vulnerable industry.
Details regarding the plans for celebration of the Golden Jubilee were shared by Minister of Tourism, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom. He was thankful to all industry professionals who took part in the virtual event, and specially thanked the talented artists behind the design of the logo.
The Golden Year of Tourism Logo was designed by Abdulla Nashath and Mohamed Azlif. Inspired by the natural beauty and pristine flora and fauna abundantly found in the Maldives, the logo is woven around the rich local culture and heritage. This logo will be used as the offical brand image during celebrations of 50 Golden years of Tourism in 2022.
