Hard Rock Hotel Maldives Earns Green Globe Certification

Wednesday 21st of May 2025

Hard Rock Hotel Maldives has once again achieved Green Globe Certification, underscoring its strong and ongoing commitment to sustainable tourism. This internationally recognised certification is awarded following a rigorous independent audit, evaluating performance against more than 380 environmental, social, and cultural sustainability indicators.

At Hard Rock Hotel Maldives, sustainability isn’t a slogan—it’s part of daily operations, guest experiences, and long-term planning. The resort continues to make significant progress in reducing its environmental impact without compromising guest comfort or service quality.

Energy use is carefully managed with smart room controls and occupancy sensors. An impressive 99% of lighting throughout the property uses high-efficiency LED technology. Hot water is produced using a heat exchanger powered by generators, and steam-powered laundry machines along with energy-efficient kitchen and room appliances help minimise consumption. Paper usage has been drastically cut thanks to digital systems, while a Green IT policy ensures devices are switched off when not in use.

Water conservation is equally central. The resort operates its own advanced seawater treatment facility, supplying clean water across the property. This is supported by dual-flush toilets, low-flow fixtures, greywater recycling, and real-time monitoring to quickly address any inefficiencies. Preventive maintenance keeps systems running smoothly and helps reduce waste before it occurs.

Located in one of the world’s most climate-vulnerable regions, Hard Rock Hotel Maldives takes its responsibility seriously. The resort uses electric buggies to reduce emissions and sources goods locally to lower its carbon footprint while supporting community businesses. A dedicated green procurement policy and ongoing staff training ensure sustainable practices are followed across all departments.

The resort also runs a Marine Discovery Centre, where coral propagation, snorkelling tours, and reef education programs engage guests in marine conservation. Its partnership with Parley for the Oceans focuses on reducing plastic waste and protecting fragile marine environments.

Sustainability is fully integrated into the guest experience. Through the Maldives Discovery Centre, visitors can explore local history, art, and culture via live performances, exhibitions, and artisan workshops—connecting cultural appreciation with environmental care.

Earning Green Globe recertification is a milestone, but for Hard Rock Hotel Maldives, it’s only a step in an ongoing journey. With sustainability woven into every part of its rhythm and hospitality, the resort continues to lead by example—where luxury and responsibility go hand in hand.
