November is always a busy time around everywhere with airports and airlines bearing the full brunt of the increased travel demands. With the holiday season lingering just around the corner, everyone is making plans for their vacations with Maldives ticking off the boxes in many categories. Whether you are looking for a high-end vacation, a romantic recluse, or a cherished time with family there are tourist facilities that cater to all. With things as they were, the Maldives’ tourism statistics are on a high with total arrivals standing at 1,456,170 as of November 23rd 2022. The Maldives aims to welcome 1.6 Million visitors by the end of the year.
Last month reined in the highest number of arrivals to the Maldives for 2022 with an astonishing value of 153,737. So far into November (as of 23rd), 111,813 visitors have visited the destination with the average fly-in at around 4,453. The statistics also showed that tourists like to spend at least a week in the sunny isles with the average duration of stay estimated at around 8 days. The Maldives still haven’t reached the growth rate of pre-pandemic times but the values are inching towards the positive with the difference becoming smaller with every month.
India still continues to crown the charts as the number.1 market for the Maldives. The market share has also increased slightly with the neighbouring country occupying 14% of the total market share. Falling close behind India is Russia which has overtaken the British market and now resides in second position. The Russian market dominates 12.3% of the total market while the British market now contributes 10.9% in the 3rd position. A new addition to the charts is the South Korean market which has made an entry as the 9th top source market.
A look into the accommodation facilities provides a hopeful image with all hotels and guesthouses as well as safari vessels operating at full capacity with all registered establishments fully underway. Almost all resorts are also operational with resort facilities that account for a large proportion of the bed capacity. Of course, local tourism is now widely spread across the country however, popular hotspots can be identified in Kaafu and Alifu Alifu atolls, jointly boasting an impressive 494 guesthouses out of the 861 total. Alifu Dhaalu, Baa and Vaavu quickly follow in their footsteps together contributing 205 guesthouses.
Many airlines have resumed seasonal services for the Maldives including British Airways, Austrian Airlines and LOT Polish Airlines. Some new airlines are now flying scheduled flights to the Maldives too including Kuwait Airways and Wizz Air. Other renowned airlines operating in the Maldives comprise Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, Air Asia, Indigo, Etihad Airways, Emirates, Edelweiss and Turkish Airlines among others.
