Immerse Yourself in the Colours of Paradise with Paul Schrader’s “Light in Paradise”

Tuesday 25th of March 2025

Patina Maldives, nestled in the scenic North Malé Atoll, invites guests to experience the magic of art in an immersive setting through its renowned Artist in Residence program. From April 3 to 16, 2025, the resort welcomes German artist Paul Schrader, offering visitors a unique opportunity to explore the world of contemporary art up close.

Schrader, known for his large-scale works filled with vibrant colours and spatial depth, brings a refreshing artistic perspective to Patina Maldives. A former lawyer, Schrader transitioned into painting and quickly rose to prominence in the art world, exhibiting in respected galleries from Berlin to New York. His art often draws inspiration from nature’s ever-changing colours and forms, focusing on the emotional and atmospheric impact of light and space.

During his residency, Schrader will present his exhibition “Light in Paradise” at the Fari Art Atelier, the resort’s dedicated gallery space. The exhibition reflects the fleeting beauty of sunrise and sunset, capturing soft pastel hues and shimmering turquoise waters in a serene atmosphere. Schrader’s works allow viewers to experience the ebb and flow of light in paradise, transforming the gallery into a space of calm reflection.

But the residency is not just about viewing art — it’s about experiencing it firsthand. Schrader will host exclusive “Sip and Paint” workshops at the Stargazing Pier, where guests can create their own interpretations of the tropical sunset. Guided by Schrader’s expertise, participants will learn his painting techniques, offering a chance to take home a piece of the Maldives' natural beauty.

Patina Maldives' Artist in Residence program is part of its broader commitment to blending art and nature. Alongside Schrader’s exhibition, guests can explore other captivating installations, including the “Skyspace” by light artist James Turrell, a space that interacts with light and perception throughout the day. Through these artistic experiences, Patina Maldives continues to establish itself as a destination where art fosters creativity, making it the perfect escape for art lovers and nature enthusiasts alike.
