The football field at JOALI BEING was quiet on the evening of June 26th before an uproar of enthusiastic cheers and hurrahs broke out. A group of young Maldivian players were about to participate in a memorable skills workshop when football legend Diego Simeone arrived.
Simeone, a famous midfielder for Atlético, Lazio, and Inter Milan who also earned an Olympic medal while representing Argentina, has been the head coach of Atlético Madrid since 2011.
The footballer spent a portion of the summer at JOALI BEING, the Maldives' first and only nature-immersive well-being retreat, where he led football clinics for visitors and a session with aspiring young local players.
Learning Meets Inspiration
A group of 14 young players from Meedhoo Island traveled to JOALI BEING on June 26 for an exhilarating session with Simeone. The kids had the chance to interact personally with the world-class player and coach in addition to learning useful information and practicing pro techniques; this interaction is sure to inspire them for years to come.
Launching A Collaborative Series
The Movement Skills Series at JOALI BEING was introduced thanks to the collaboration with Simeone. The retreat will collaborate with renowned tennis players, fitness experts, and athletes in the upcoming months to host a variety of interactive workshops for wellness seekers.
General Manager Özgür Cengiz notes, “Our team is always looking for meaningful ways to connect with guests and support the local community. This commitment is integral to the JOALI brand.”
Rooted in Local Community
Since its doors first opened in late 2021, JOALI BEING has consistently shown its dedication to the advancement and well-being of local citizens. The team has made it a priority to support and empower neighboring island communities, from hosting an appreciation event for medical professionals on International Nurses' Day to holding virtual education sessions for university students on International Women's Day. For Maldivian aspirants, the wellness retreat has also generated numerous internships in the hospitality industry.
