Thursday 19th of December 2024

Kuda Villingili Resort, in collaboration with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of the Maldives, recently hosted a special Sustainability Awareness Event for Grade 5 students from the Kaafu Atoll Education Center in Thulusdhoo. This initiative marks another step in the resort’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainable tourism and environmental education within the local community.

The event began with a visit to Thulusdhoo, where the EPA delivered an informative session on the vital importance of protecting coral reefs. Meanwhile, Kuda Villingili showcased its Green Globe Certified sustainability initiatives to the students. The resort’s Green Globe Certification highlights its commitment to environmentally responsible practices, which include renewable energy, water conservation, waste management, and coral reef protection.

Students were also given eco-themed stickers and bookmarks by the EPA to help nurture their environmental awareness. In addition, Kuda Villingili distributed children's books, reinforcing the importance of learning and environmental stewardship.

The next phase of the event saw the students visiting Kuda Villingili for an immersive experience. After a refreshing break at the resort’s Spice Restaurant, the group toured the resort’s accommodations, facilities, and engineering areas. Here, the students witnessed firsthand the resort’s innovative sustainability initiatives that make it a leader in eco-friendly hospitality.

Key highlights of the tour included:

Solar Energy Utilization: A solar panel system that generates over 30% of the resort’s energy needs.

Reverse Osmosis (RO) System: A water desalination process that provides safe drinking water.

Waste Heat Recovery Unit: A system that uses generator heat to produce hot water for guests.

Wastewater Treatment: Advanced systems that recycle water for irrigation and landscaping.

These eco-friendly practices underscore Kuda Villingili’s ethos of "luxury with responsibility," demonstrating that high-end tourism can thrive alongside environmental preservation.

Through such initiatives, Kuda Villingili remains committed to protecting the natural beauty of the Maldives while empowering future generations to take action in preserving the environment. By educating local children about sustainable practices, the resort hopes to inspire them to become the environmental stewards of tomorrow.

This event is a testament to Kuda Villingili’s vision of creating a sustainable future for both the Maldives and the global tourism industry.
