Launching Coral Stone Mosques of Maldives Website

The Maldives introduces an official website to commemorate the coral stone mosques of the Maldives. It was launched on 11th May by Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage Mrs. Yumna Maumoon and European Union Ambassador to the Maldives H.E Denis Chaibi in a virtual ceremony. The website was developed by renowned local architect Mr. Mauroof Jameel, with the support of the Ministry and finance by European Union.

The coral stone mosques of Maldives are a series of culturally and architecturally unique sites. There are more than 24 coral stone mosques in various parts of the island nation, which are last of their kind and hence need to be protected. The purpose of the website is to document the surviving mosques and support the country’s efforts to list the cultural monuments on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
