Life during Breast Cancer Treatment

Alyona Kochetkova had an unforgettable 29th birthday. No, it wasn’t due to a huge celebration. It was on this day in 2017 that she got the shocking news. ‘I could not understand how a person with a healthy lifestyle - which I thought I had - could get cancer.’

Me and my wig, which I used to wear during treatment.

Being a photographer for over 10 years, she was used to capturing moments outside. After she got to know she had breast cancer, the photographer turns the camera on herself and documents her breast cancer treatment. ‘I hope that my story will inspire other cancer patients to find their way through such a difficult period in their lives.’

Staring out the window in my apartment during an insomnia episode caused by chemotherapy drugs
Slices of my tumor under glass.

Intravenous therapy drew a line with my past. That was the beginning of my struggle for recovery.
Praying in my apartment. The icon on the shelf is Panagia Pantanassa, who is known for healing people with cancer.
Lying in my bed with my achy feet up, under the lights of the red laser-pointer, which I used to visualize bone pain.
Me in the cancer ward.
Making myself eat in my kitchen.
Preparing for my sister's wedding party.
Me with my husband.
