Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) in partnership with the Maldives Civil Aviation Authority (MCAA) conducted a two-day Airport Emergency Planning (AEP) workshop from February 14-15, 2023. The workshop was targeted at local airlines and aerodrome operators and was attended by 51 participants from 18 airports and 3 airlines across the country.
The main objective of the workshop was to educate and inform local airlines and aerodrome operators on the formulation and implementation of Airport Emergency Plans and the design of Airport Full-Scale Emergency Exercises. The AEP workshop marks the beginning of a series of sessions scheduled to be carried out by MACL to strengthen airport operations throughout the country. The initiative is supported by the MCAA and will ensure international and national requirements are met in airport operations in the Maldives.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Managing Director of MACL, Ibrahim Thoha highlighted the importance of preparedness in dealing with airport emergencies and reflected on previous circumstances where a speedy response was needed. He also emphasized on disaster risk reduction and its integral role in catering to modern emergencies. Before concluding his remarks, he shed light on the need of coordination, cooperation and communication before, during and after emergencies to ensure efficiency in airport emergency management.
