On 22nd of March, Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed announced that the Maldives have secured 1158 Rooms and 2288 beds as quarantine facilities. “Thank you tourism industry. Great initiative by his excellency President,” his tweet states.
Those who are in quarantine facilities are being informed of Ministry of Tourism focals who will be there to help. The quarantine locations are: Vilivaru, Biyaadhoo Island Resort, Fun Island Resort, Holiday Island, Hulhule Island Hotel, Malahini Kuda Bandos, Embudu Village, Varu by Atmosphere, Velidhoo Island Resort, Dhiggiru Tourist Resort and Royal Island.
Maldives was reported a total 13 positive cases in around 2 months, out of which there has been 2 recoveries. So total active cases in the country drops to 10. The government is carrying out several precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the disease in the country.
On 20th March, The Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Zhang Lizhong commended Maldives' efforts against the global COVID-19 pandemic. In the tweet, Ambassador Zhang said the Maldives' responses to tackle COVID-19 are challenging yet impressive.
