The Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization that was first inaugurated in 1982, for the purpose of promoting and developing tourism in the Maldives. MATI has provided three decades of its services to almost all the travel and tourism related issues which arise in Maldives.
A key function of MATI is coordinating with all mandatory government policy making bodies to align new laws and regulations to the best practices that exist in the tourism industry.
Moreover, they represent the industry internationally and locally by attending different seminars, organizing as well as providing research and offering professional consultation to governmental, private and international organizations.
The vision of MATI is to make Maldives the world leader in sustainable tourism and their mission is to continuously monitor the internal and external environment for the tourism sector within the industry by playing the role of a mediator as well as engaging actively by striving to minimize challenges and maximize opportunities.
MATI’s current main areas of focus are development and planning of tourism, quality and standards, education and training, environment and culture.
MATI has now launched a dedicated portal for all of its members. And this portal is a one stop resource center to get key industry statistical analysis, data, reports etc. This will enable to see the progress of the tourism industry in the Maldives, over the years, and it is updated to the latest 2020 statistics.
