Maldives’ “Burunu Boma” Sports Fishing Tournament Opens for Registration

The Maldives is gearing up to host its largest sports fishing event, the Burunu Boma Sports Fishing Tournament, set to take place in May 2025. Visit Maldives Club (VMC), a special initiative launched by the Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/Visit Maldives), has opened registration for this exciting competition that aims to unite the tourism and sports fishing communities in the country.

The Burunu Boma was officially launched on December 20th, 2024, in a ceremony held at the Malé Table Tennis Hall, with the Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, Ahmed Shiyam, in attendance. The event will bring together local and international anglers to compete for a grand prize of USD 10,000 while exploring the Maldives’ rich marine environments.

The tournament will follow a “catch and release” format, ensuring the protection of the Maldives' marine life while encouraging friendly competition.
