Maldives Discusses Guideline to Restart Tourism

On 21st May, Ministry of Tourism has held a discussion with MATI, MACL and Visit Maldives, MCAA and Technical Advisory Group today on "Guideline to Restart Maldives Tourism".

Further, Minister Ali Waheed also discussed the plan to open Maldives Tourism with the Secretary General of World Tourism Organisation. Secretary General Zurab Pololikashvili assured that UNWTO will give technical assistance to the "Guideline to Restart Maldives Tourism".

The initial draft guideline requires prior confirmed booking with a safe tourism resort and the entirety of the stay “must be booked in one tourist facility”. The guideline also states that a special tourist visa fee of USD 100 for arrivals “will be applicable until further notice” while chartered flights and private jets are to be charged a landing fee of USD 50,000.
