Yesterday, Ensis Fisheries opened a new Fish Processing Plant and Ice Plant at Hulhumale'. Found in 1996, Ensis is a major tuna processing company in Maldives that processes and exports fresh, frozen tuna to the international market.
The investment worth 385 million MVR will offer more than 400 job opportunities for locals among which 175 are allocated for women. Speaking at the inauguration, President Ibu Solih stated that the fishing industry, once the top industry of Maldives, has been overpassed by tourism industry and in order to develop the industry back to its full potential, public and private sectors must work together. He also praised the efforts of Ensis for their role in the fisheries sector in the country.
