Maldives On A Hopeful Uphill In The Tourism Industry This Year

As per the recent statistics published by the Ministry of Tourism, the future for the Maldivian Tourism looks bright with this month bringing in the 1 millionth tourist to our shores as well. As of 17th August, Maldives welcomed 1,028,467 visitors to the sunny isles of the tropics with daily average visitors growing to a whopping 4806 this month. The duration of stay has also increased with guests spending a little more than a week of about 8.5 days in the beachy paradise.

India is still ruling the charts in the top ten markets of the month and contributes a large percentage of 14.3% to the market share. The second in the market goes to United Kingdom with Russia falling close behind at 3rd position. Maldives is increasing becoming popular in the European market with several other countries of the region making it to the list. This includes Germany, France, Spain, Switzerland and the Italy. Growing destination presence is even seen in the Middle East with the Saudi Arabian market securing a place in the charts.

Most tourism establishments are now back on track following the Covid-19 pandemic with all safari vessels, hotels and guesthouses operating on maximum capacity. Most resorts are also recovering well with 164 resorts operating and welcoming guests at present.

Guesthouse operations are underway in almost all atolls with significant numbers seen in the pristine atolls of Haa Alifu and Haa Dhaalu and the magnificent blues of the Noonu Atoll. Even higher numbers of guesthouses are featured in the scenic atolls of Alif Alif and Alif Dhaalu along with the untouched havens of Vaavu. The Kaafu Atoll is strewn with guesthouses exceeding over 300 with a combined capacity of more than 7000 beds.

Being marked as the World’s Leading Destination means many international airlines are now gracing the Maldivian skies with big names in the airline industry making direct flights to the Maldives. This includes high-profile airlines such as Emirates, Aeroflot, Indigo, Qatar Airways and Singapore Airlines. Other noteworthy airlines flying to Maldives include Air Asia, Air India, Edelweiss, Fly Dubai and Gulf Air.
