Maldives Participates In 24th UNWTO General Assembly

The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is a specialized organization of the United Nations dedicated with promoting responsible, sustainable, and universally accessible tourism. The company's headquarters are located in Madrid, Spain. The UNWTO is the primary worldwide organization promoting tourism as a driver of economic growth, inclusive development, and environmental sustainability.

It serves as a global platform for tourism policy and a source of tourism research and expertise, as well as providing leadership and assistance in the advancement of knowledge and tourist policies. The Global Code of Ethics for Tourism Development, Competitiveness, Innovation & Digital Transformation, Ethics, Culture & Social Responsibility, Technical Cooperation, UNWTO Academy, and Statistics are all encouraged to be implemented.

In the 24th General Assembly by UNWTO, that was hosted from November 30th to December 3rd, Minister of Tourism, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom represented Maldives along with other officials at the Youth Meets Ministers Debate. In the debate, talks over the difficulties faced on community-based tourism and initiatives taken for youth in the industry were spoken about.

Ambassador of to Belgium and to the European Union, Hassan Sobir, Permanent Secretary to Tourism Ministry, Fathimath Nilfa and the Executive Director to Tourism Ministry, Fazeela Ali accompanied the Tourism Minister during the debate.
