Maldives Reopening for South Asian Travelers

Wednesday 30th of June 2021

The long-awaited decision is finally here! Following almost 3-months of travel ban, tourists from the South Asian region will be once again welcome to the Maldives from July 15 onwards.

An official statement by the President of Maldives, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih revealed that the ease of travel restrictions to tourists and work-visa holders travelling to the Maldives from South Asian countries will be granted in consideration of the current Covid status of the country respectively.

As of now, travelers require submission of a negative PCR test taken no longer than 96 hours prior to embarking on the journey to Maldives. With the ease, travelers from India, one of the biggest source markets to Maldives, can once again say hello to paradise and rejuvenate in a peaceful haven.

The effect of halting arrivals from South Asian countries significantly reflected in the sudden drop in arrival numbers in May and so far in this month as well. India held a dominating first ranking with arrival numbers remaining the highest throughout the year prior to that.

Maldives is not only a popular vacation spot, but an ideal long-time getaway for the Indian travelers, particularly among Bollywood stars. Resorts, guesthouses, safaris, liveaboards, and hotels are all welcoming tourists with industry-leading cleanliness protocols in place, and Maldives having vaccinated more than half the service providers of the tourism industry with full dosage makes it even safer for holidaymakers.
