Maldives Reportedly Welcomes Close To 2000 Tourists In July

Since Maldives lifted all restrictions on international travel over the COVID-19 pandemic on July 15, the number of tourist arrivals have continued to increase, with the first batch of tourists arriving from the Qatar Airways flight at Velana International Airport. By the end of July, Maldives Immigration has recorded a total of 1769 tourist arrivals with the opening of over 42 resorts.

The numbers have been projected to increase over the upcoming months as an additional 26 resorts are estimated to open in August. The tourism ministry has expressed a target of attracting 900,000 tourists to Maldives by the end of 2020 with extensive resort promotional activities and webinar sessions to convince holiday-makers to trust Maldives for spending their holidays.

According to Maldives Immigration, the highest number of tourist arrivals were recorded from the United Kingdom (UK) with 258 arrivals, followed by the United States with 189 arrivals and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) which account for 143 tourists. The UK is one of Maldives most important inbound markets for tourism and inevitably, UK is still the biggest tourism life-saver of Maldives during these pandemic times. There has been a steady number of tourists from Germany, Switzerland, Spain, France, Russia, Italy and Philippines, visiting Maldives as well during the previous month.

Authorities have assured that adequate safety protocols are in place at the Maldives Airport and that it is fully equipped to handle multiple flights landings per day. Resorts have facemasks as per guidelines issued by the Health Protection Agency (HPA). All passengers will undergo thermal screening and individuals with any Covid-19 symptoms will be transported to the airport clinic. All resorts have implemented rigorous safety procedures and extreme hygiene measures has been emphasized in all resorts for tourists to ensure the health and safety of guests arriving.
