The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), also known as Visit Maldives, is excited to announce its participation in the Asian Tourism Fair (ATF) in Dhaka, Bangladesh, from September 19 to 21, 2024. This collaboration with the National Hotel and Guest House Association (NHGAM) and the Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) aims to highlight the Maldives’ offerings to the burgeoning Bangladeshi market. As the prime partner country for ATF 2024, the Maldivian delegation includes 37 representatives from 23 industry partners focused on promoting leisure and affordable luxury travel.
ATF Dhaka serves as a vital platform for tourism business networking, facilitating connections between the private sector, organizations, and development agencies across Asia. The event fosters relationships among people, destinations, and countries, providing a comprehensive travel trade exhibition for both business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) interactions. In addition to the main exhibition, attendees can participate in seminars, workshops, and cultural exchanges, making it a multifaceted event. This year’s ATF coincides with World Tourism Day, adding an extra layer of excitement.
At the Maldives stand, visitors can experience the country’s unique offerings firsthand. The exhibit will showcase the stunning diversity of experiences available, from vibrant marine life to natural beauty, all of which contribute to the Maldives’ reputation as the World’s Leading Destination. Engaging activities will include traditional food tastings, spotlighting tourism products that emphasize affordable luxury and family-friendly travel options.
During the inauguration of ATF 2024, Deputy Managing Director of MMPRC, Zihuny Rasheed, spoke passionately about the Maldives’ distinctive offerings and the significance of the Bangladeshi market. He stated, “As a leading tourism destination, Visit Maldives is committed to promoting itself as a premier travel destination. Together with NHGAM and MATATO, we are working tirelessly to create innovative marketing campaigns and strategic partnerships that showcase the beauty, diversity, and sustainability of our islands.” His address was accompanied by a presentation detailing the Maldives’ offerings tailored specifically for the Bangladeshi travel trade.
Ibrahim Shiuree, CEO and Managing Director of MMPRC, highlighted the exceptional opportunity ATF Dhaka presents for engaging with Asian tourism bodies. He noted, “We are committed to expanding our reach in this promising market, showcasing the Maldives as a top-notch destination for travelers seeking unparalleled beauty and world-class hospitality.”
This marks the first time Visit Maldives is participating in ATF, underscoring its commitment to enhancing its presence in Asian markets like India, Nepal, Bhutan, and Bangladesh. The Maldives has already welcomed 18,843 arrivals from Bangladesh as of July 30, 2024, ranking 14th among total arrivals worldwide with a market share of 1.6%. Notably, tourist arrivals from Bangladesh have surged by at least 38% this year, reflecting the market's resilience and growth potential for the Maldivian tourism industry.
Through innovative marketing campaigns and strategic partnerships, Visit Maldives aims to position the country as a premier travel destination. With a focus on sustainability and diverse experiences, the Maldives is ready to attract travelers seeking extraordinary vacations, whether for relaxation, adventure, wellness, or romance. As the country showcases its unique offerings at ATF Dhaka, it is poised to make a significant impact in the rapidly growing Bangladeshi tourism market.
