Maldives tourist arrivals climb with over 1.29 million visitors so far

Tourist arrivals to the Maldives have reached 1.29 million as of Wednesday, showing a 9.5 percent increase compared to the same period last year, according to the latest update from the Ministry of Tourism.

The month of July alone welcomed 180,438 tourists, reflecting an 11.8 percent rise from July 2023. On average, the Maldives is currently receiving more than 6,000 tourists each day.

Accommodation statistics show that most visitors preferred resorts, with 73 percent choosing them. Guesthouses accounted for 22 percent of stays, while 2 percent of tourists opted for hotels and safari vessels.

China topped the list of source markets this year with 188,317 visitors, up 14.6 percent from last year. Russia followed with 152,385 tourists, and the United Kingdom ranked third with 120,937 arrivals. Other top countries include Italy, Germany, India, the United States, France, Spain, and Switzerland.

The Ministry has set a target of 2.5 million tourist arrivals for 2025, and the current growth trend shows promising progress toward that goal.
