MATI’s 35th AGM Highlights Tourism Industry Progress

The Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) held its 35th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on February 9, 2025, at the renowned Kurumba Maldives. With 111 members in attendance, the meeting set the stage for key discussions and initiatives for the year ahead.

Chairman Mohamed Umar Maniku and Secretary General Ahmed Nazeer kicked off the proceedings, which included a video presentation highlighting the association's advocacy efforts for 2024. Members approved essential documents, including the minutes of the previous AGM, the 2024 Annual Report, and the financial reports prepared by FCLLP, MATI’s auditors. The 2025 budget was also approved, alongside the confirmation of FCLLP as the auditing firm for the coming year.

A key highlight was the welcome of 20 new members to the association, followed by an insightful presentation on the Industrial Relations Act by Salih Shihab & Co (SSCo LLP). The event also featured an overview of the tourism industry’s performance in 2024.

Notable figures such as the Governor of the Maldives Monetary Authority, the Commissioner General of Taxation, and the CEO of Bank of Maldives attended the event. Senior officials from the Ministry of Tourism and various tourism-related associations were also present.

A dynamic Q&A session addressed pressing topics like economic outlooks, taxation policies, and the implications for the tourism sector. The event concluded with a presentation on the development of the new Velana International Airport terminal and the launch of BML’s Green Resort Financing initiative, marking a pivotal moment for the tourism sector.
