Meet Shaaheen! The Intelligence Behind the Team of Engineers at Fairmont Sirrufenfushi

At Fairmont Maldives Sirru Fen Fushi, the crew makes an ongoing effort to not only ensure long-term sustainability, but also to uphold the commitment made by the global franchise to constantly seek to improve the ways in which they impact the environment. The engineering department is a key player in this effort.

One of the most important yet underappreciated aspects of the hospitality industry has always been engineering. Teams of highly skilled professionals toil tirelessly behind the scenes and out of sight to ensure that every aspect of the hotel or resort runs smoothly, effectively, and sustainably, ultimately elevating and enhancing the guest experience.

Sirru Fen Fushi’s team of engineers is led by Mr. Mohamed Shaaheen, the Director of Engineering at Fairmont Maldives, who also manages the resort's sustainable practices. With almost 20 years of experience in the high-end hospitality sector, Shaheen has developed his technical expertise, assertiveness, and innovative thinking, all of which are crucial to the resort's sustainability initiatives.

“The resort has invested in numerous initiatives to promote a sustainable future, which include a bottling plant to desalinate seawater so that it can be repurposed and used for washing or drinking water. LED lights are fitted throughout the resort to reduce energy consumption, and all guest rooms feature a heat-recovery boiler system. In addition to this, our generators are automatically synchronized, which reduces consumption and ultimately minimizes carbon emissions. At Fairmont Maldives, we are constantly evaluating new solutions to allow us to further reduce our carbon footprint, and I’m excited to see what the future holds.” Sharing an insight into his department’s efforts is the proud leader, Shaaheen.
