In 2020, Maldives recorded a total of 3164 arrivals from Turkey despite an ongoing global pandemic and travel restrictions in place. With direct flight connections to the Maldives, Turkey is one of the key destinations Visit Maldives has targeted in order to boost the Maldives’ significance in the market.

An ambitious lineup of marketing activities is planned for the year ahead, including joint promotions and participation in key travel trade fairs focusing on the Turkish market. Visit Maldives will strategically be using digital, social, and virtual platforms aiming to maintain the destination presence and promote Maldives as the most preferred destination within the Market.

The 14th Travel Turkey Izmir Digital Fair (TTI), first virtual exhibition of the tourism industry in Turkey was held from February 25 to 27 for tourism professionals from around the world at the same digital platform. Visit Maldives took part in this event to establish new business connections at the B2B video meetings held between hosted buyers and all participants who will visit the fair from all around the world.

The virtual setting opened opportunities for participants to connect and develop relationships with attendees with branded networking tables and panel discussions. Visit Maldives was exhibited in a dedicated stand, and information about the destination and the stringent safety measures implemented at every touch point were shared with attendees.

Addressing at the webinar, Thoyyib Mohamed, Managing Director of Visit Maldives highlighted the impact of COVID-19 on the tourism industry in the Maldives, and the efforts being carried out to promote the destination as a safe destination to travel. Moreover, video presentations showcasing the unique experiences in Maldives for travelers were shown, further assured of safe travels by the unique geographical formation of the islands and the one-island-one resort concept in the Maldives.

Maldives revised its annual tourist arrival goals to 1.5 million this year forecasting on the progress being seen in this high season time. as of February 25, a total of 176.394 tourist arrivals were recorded. Ongoing destination promotion efforts by Visit Maldives are anticipated to motivate more travelers to voyage to this safe haven from around the world.
